Sky Garden, Daisy Bank Road, Leckhampton, Cheltenham

Location: Gloucestershire

Project: Bespoke new-build home

Architect: Lewis Critchley Architects

Sky Garden, Daisy Bank Road, Leckhampton, Cheltenham is a contemporary self-build replacement dwelling set at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Designed by Lewis Critchley Architects, the scheme responds carefully to its sensitive semi-rural setting and the site’s natural topography. Lewis Critchley Architects

The house is designed to minimise its visual impact on the surrounding landscape while taking advantage of long-distance views and solar gain. Timber cladding and PPC aluminium glazing create a restrained contemporary material palette, while extensive glazing is positioned to balance outlook, daylight and privacy. A sedum roof covers the building, helping the dwelling blend into the landscape when viewed from higher ground on the Cotswold escarpment. The project received planning approval as part of a collaborative consultant-led process.
