Lewis Critchley — Founding Director & Architect

Lewis Critchley is the founding director of Lewis Critchley Architects and has more than two decades of architectural experience across residential, commercial and education projects.
Lewis established the practice in 2019 with a focus on delivering highly considered, design-led architecture and a personal service from initial ideas through to completion.
His particular passion is residential architecture: transforming existing properties, designing contemporary extensions and creating distinctive new-build homes.
Each project begins with understanding the client — how they live, what they value and what they want their home to become. Lewis combines this brief with a careful reading of the site, its landscape, neighbouring buildings, views, orientation and planning context to develop a design that belongs to its setting.
This contextual approach is particularly important when working within the distinctive towns, villages and landscapes of Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, where contemporary architecture needs to respond intelligently to its surroundings.
Lewis remains closely involved throughout the design process, providing clients with a consistent point of contact and helping turn an initial ambition into a coherent, buildable architectural solution.
David Lees : architectural consultant
David Lees is a principal architectural consultant to the practice and brings extensive design experience and architectural insight to collaborative projects.
A multiple award-winning architect, David graduated from the University of Sheffield with a distinguished academic record, receiving the final-year prize and achieving first place in the RIBA National Student Prize (Silver Medal).
He has worked with several award-winning architectural practices and previously ran his own successful practice.
David brings intellectual rigour, design experience and a critical eye to both his own work and collaborative projects with Lewis Critchley Architects.
