Lewis Critchley Architects have designed a contemporary new-build house, sitting within a sensitive context and designed to provide a quiet home in the country, with a degree of privacy more akin to a rural house. Replacing a dilapidated building on the site with outward facing aspect. Board-marked concrete, burnt larch cladding, and green roofing allows for the creation of a modern home in harmony with its surroundings, with a clear reference to the retained brick and stone elements on the site.
Respecting the existing topography of the site allows garden spaces to flow coherently between outside and in, resulting in a home which is designed around how the clients wish to live. The concept design for the new contemporary sustainable family home in Surrey provides a sense of connection to the natural landscape that was a key element of the owners’ brief, who chose this specific location for their home due to its idyllic setting and the potential to create their own, highly sustainable modern home
