Black + House
Black + House is a striking contemporary new-build home conceived as a bold architectural intervention within an established, leafy residential setting. The design is defined by a series of carefully composed rectilinear volumes, with dark vertical cladding giving the building a strong, monolithic character while allowing it to sit quietly against the mature landscape. The principal two-storey form is articulated through deep reveals, projecting upper-floor elements and generous areas of glazing, creating depth and rhythm across the elevations. A lower, flat-roofed volume accommodates the integrated garage and helps break down the overall mass of the house, while the contrasting pitched-roof element provides a considered transition towards the more traditional architecture of the neighbouring properties. Landscape forms an integral part of the architectural composition. Structured planting, hedging and specimen trees soften the dark material palette and establish privacy around the generous entrance forecourt. To the rear, the house opens towards extensive landscaped gardens, with large glazed openings strengthening the relationship between the internal living spaces and their surroundings. The result is a confident yet carefully contextual contemporary home: one that combines strong geometric forms, a restrained material palette and expansive glazing with a landscape-led approach to create a distinctive modern residence.
