Land at Green Acres

Location: Herefordshire

Project: Bespoke new-build homes

Architect: Lewis Critchley Architects

A contemporary development of four energy-efficient family homes, carefully designed to respond to the rural character of the Herefordshire landscape. The scheme is shaped by the site’s orientation, natural topography, sunlight and surrounding views, creating a strong relationship between the architecture and its setting.

Each home features generous open-plan living spaces, double-height glazing and carefully positioned terraces that maximise natural light and frame views towards the surrounding countryside and Black Mountains. A restrained material palette of buff brick and iroko timber brings warmth and texture to the elevations, while deep roof overhangs and sedum green roofs help soften the buildings within the landscape.

Sustainability is central to the design, incorporating passive solar gain, high levels of insulation, triple glazing, MVHR, solar power and battery storage. Together, these elements create comfortable, low-energy contemporary homes that balance architectural character, environmental performance and a strong connection to the landscape.
