Cheltenham New Build

This contemporary new-build residence in Cheltenham is conceived as a carefully composed family home, combining strong architectural form with a close relationship to its landscaped setting. A restrained palette of natural stone, crisp rendered surfaces, timber and generous glazing gives the house a refined, timeless character, while the arrangement of interlocking volumes breaks down its overall scale and creates a series of sheltered external spaces. Large areas of glazing connect the principal living spaces directly with the garden, allowing the architecture and landscape to be experienced as one. Terraces, structured planting and tree-lined routes extend the geometry of the house into the grounds, while a swimming pool forms a focal point for the private rear garden and outdoor entertaining areas. Deep overhangs and recessed openings provide shade and enclosure, creating a balance between openness, privacy and protection. Lewis Critchley Architects

The approach is intentionally calm and understated, with integrated garaging and carefully considered landscaping helping to create a strong sense of arrival. Throughout, the design emphasises clean lines, natural materials and framed views, resulting in a distinctive contemporary home that feels both sophisticated and comfortably connected to its surroundings.
